Change of heart?

We love all tattoos and forms of body art, obviously, but over the years we’ve heard one too many stories from clients about artwork they’ve come to regret or no longer feel connected to. We’ve also seen and heard from clients who received a bad tattoo from another shop and want it covered up. In many cases, cover-up tattoos involve using dark black ink to completely conceal the original artwork or creating a very large piece that the customer might not want. With laser tattoo removal, Elite Ink Tattoo and Piercing is able to remove unwanted tattoos and also fade down tattoos for better quality cover-ups.

How Does Laser Tattoo Removal Work?

If you didn’t know already, tattoos naturally fade and lose color over a long period of time. That’s because your body’s immune system continuously tries to remove your tattoo from the moment it’s embedded into your skin’s dermal layer. However, tattoo ink particles are much larger in size compared to your body’s blood cells, making the natural fading process extremely slow. If the ink particles that make up a tattoo weren’t so big, tattoos wouldn’t be permanent.

Laser tattoo removal helps speed up the natural fading process by breaking down the ink into smaller particles. During a treatment session, our Astanza Duality laser will send ultra-quick flashes of light energy safely through your skin and target the trapped ink particles. The ink particles will absorb the light energy and shatter into tiny fragmented particles. Over the weeks following each treatment, your blood cells will remove the tiny fragments, causing your tattoo to fade more and more with each treatment.

Because tattoos are comprised of many layers of ink, virtually every laser tattoo removal customer will need multiple sessions. Our laser targets the shallowest layer of ink and works its way down with each session, breaking up the ink particles into even smaller fragments until no ink is visible.

Laser tattoo removal at Elite Ink Tattoo and Piercing is extremely safe and effective. To learn more about this procedure to schedule a free consultation, call our Jacksonville shop today!

Cutting Edge Wavelengths

Our Astanza Duality laser supports two of the most versatile wavelengths, 1064 nm and 532 nm, and can treat a wide variety of ink colors. Not only are these wavelengths safe to use on ALL skin types, the Duality also features a flat-top homogenized spot beam for safer energy application and reduced treatment overlap for fewer risks of side effects.

As Effective As They Come.

The Astanza Duality can completely remove 95% of tattoos, fade down tattoos in preparation for a cover-up tattoo, and selectively remove certain parts of tattoos while leaving the surrounding ink intact. This laser penetrates deep into the skin without harming any of the surrounding skin tissue, eliminating more ink with each session and reducing the number of overall treatments needed to achieve your desired look.

Just Looking For A Change?

Cover-up tattoos are great candidates for laser tattoo removal. By fading your tattoo down, you are creating a cleaner canvas for your tattoo artist to work on. Without tattoo removal, cover-ups generally require twice the amount of ink, often black ink, to effectively hide the original tattoo. A faded tattoo allows for a more detailed and creative cover-up tattoo that aligns more with your desired design. Elite Ink Tattoo and Piercing can connect you with one of our talented tattoo cover-up artists, just ask your laser technician for more information!

Frequently Asked Questions

Almost all customers require multiple laser treatments. The average number of treatments is between 5 and 10. Faded tattoos may only need 3 to 4 treatments; same applies for tattoos that only need to be lightened for a cover-up. Because every patient and tattoo is different, there is no set number of treatments for every customer. Elite Ink Tattoo and Piercing uses a variety of factors to assess your unique tattoo and determine the number of treatments you will need. These factors include the age of your tattoo, the location of your tattoo, the depth of ink, the density of ink, tattoo ink colors, patient health, type of tattoo (professional vs. amateur), and size of your tattoo.

Laser tattoo removal treatments are spaced a minimum of 6 to 8 weeks apart. This waiting period is used to give your skin time to heal before its next treatment session. Treating the skin too early in the healing process can be harmful to the skin. That being said, the overall laser tattoo removal process can be quite lengthy depending on how many treatments your tattoo will need. Our Astanza Duality laser is designed to eliminate more ink in each session, lessening the number of treatments you will need. Despite the wait, we promise the results are well worth it!

Luckily, laser tattoo removal sessions are very quick. Depending on the size of your tattoo, a treatment session can last anywhere from 1 minute to 30 minutes.

Most tattoo removal patients say the laser feels like a rubber band being snapped against the skin. Those with lower pain tolerance say it feels like getting a tattoo all over again. Overall, the laser sensation is very tolerable. Elite Ink Tatto and Piercing offers the best skin numbing solution, the Zimmer Cryo cooling machine, to mitigate any pain associated with the laser and make treatments more comfortable for you.

Elite Ink Tattoo and Piercing determines the price per treatment based on the size of the tattoo being treated. Discounted packages are also available for purchase and help save you more on multiple treatments. Visit our pricing page for more information and to see our promotional specials.

Elite Ink Tattoo and Piercing is always transparent with our customers. Unfortunately, we are unable to remove all tattoos to completion. Laser tattoo removal is only effective when a laser’s wavelengths are absorbed by ink pigment. There are certain colors that require a special wavelength in order to be removed, namely bright blue and green inks. Other than those, our Duality laser’s 1064 nm and 532 nm wavelengths are capable of removing 95% of tattoos. The easiest inks to remove are dark black and blue inks.

While we cannot completely remove tattoos with bright blue and green inks, we can still fade them down significantly. Our laser technician will assess your tattoo and always be upfront about the results you will receive. We will always update our clients on any advances or changes that our shop goes through in regards to tattoo removal treatments.

No. Our Q-switched Nd:YAG Duality laser uses advanced technology to safely pass through the skin and target only tattoo ink without damaging any surrounding skin tissue. Laser tattoo removal is widely known as the safest method for getting rid of unwanted ink. The most common side effects that patients may experience are temporary redness, itchiness, swelling, scabbing, and blistering. All of these side effects are natural symptoms that show your skin is reacting well to treatment. Proper aftercare must be followed outside of our shop to get the best results.

Yes! Laser tattoo removal is a great tool for anyone interested in getting a cover-up tattoo. Fading a tattoo down will give your tattoo artist a better canvas to work on. Ask one of our talented cover-up tattoo artists or laser technicians for more information! Elite Ink Tattoo and Piercing can also remove specific parts of a tattoo while leaving the surrounding ink untouched.

Aftercare Tips

Just like with tattoos, laser tattoo removal requires careful aftercare. Proper aftercare is crucial for getting great results. Without aftercare, your skin may be prone to infection which can lead to unwanted side effects. Elite Ink Tattoo and Piercing promises to use the safest laser protocols for your skin, but you are solely responsible for the care of your skin outside of our shop. After your treatment session, we will give you a detailed list of aftercare instructions to take home. Below are just a few important aftercare tips to keep in mind.

  1. Keep the treated area clean and dry during the weeks following a treatment. Gently clean the treated tattoo with soap and water, then softly pat to dry.
  2. Apply a thin coat of ointment (Aquaphor, Neosporin, or Vitamin E oil) three times a day for the first three days following your treatment. Cover with a sterile bandage; replace as necessary.
  3. Some patients may experience unsightly blistering. Blisters are a common side effect that indicate your immune system is removing the ink from your skin, so don’t be alarmed if you form any. DO NOT pop any blisters by force – allow them to naturally pop on their own time. When this happens, apply a thin antibiotic ointment for at least 24 hours. The same applies to scabs – DO NOT pick any scabs that form. Doing so can lead to infection and unwanted scarring. Allow them to flake off naturally then apply antibiotic ointment.
  4. If you experience any discomfort or inflammation, apply a cold compress to the treatment site. You may also take Tylenol to relieve any pain, but avoid taking Aspirin as it can increase risks of bruising and/or bleeding.
  5. Avoid all water soaking activities: baths, hot tubs, swimming pools, etc. Showers may be taken as long as the tattoo is not being directly hit by high-pressure water.
  6. Wear a sunblock with SPF 25 or higher once the treatment site has completely healed. Appropriate clothing should be worn to protect the skin from excessive sun exposure. Tanning oils, ointments, and tanning beds should be avoided at all costs during the healing process and before a treatment.
  7. If you experience any serious or unusual symptoms, call our office immediately.
